Sam Mendes’ first documentary, What They Found, will air on BBC Two on Monday 7th April at 10pm
 
What They Found tells the story of two members of the British Army’s film and photographic unit, Sgt Mike Lewis and Sgt Bill Laurie, who witnessed the liberation of Bergen-Belsen during the closing days of World War II. The silent footage they captured would be the first the world would see showing the crimes of the Holocaust.
 
Their footage, accompanied by interviews conducted with Lewis and Lawrie in the 1980s, portrays a deeply personal insight and serves as a poignant reminder of the trauma, tragedy and suffering of the Holocaust.
 
Following a sold-out premiere screening at the Imperial War Museum in London earlier this month, the release of this powerful documentary will mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation. The film will also be available on BBC iPlayer
